All brothers who apply and are subsequently accepted to observe I’tikaaf with Al-Hijrah Masjid MUST read, understand and commit to following all of the stated rules. The breaking of any rules may result in you being asked to discontinue and leave the I’tikaaf program and may affect the acceptance of any future applications.
I’tikaaf is open to brothers only aged 18 and over and of sound mind and health;
Places are limited to a maximum of 5 people
Places are offered on a ‘first come-first serve’ basis. Priority will be given on the following basis:
First Priority: regulars of the Masjid who have not done I’tikaaf before
Second Priority: regulars of the Masjid who have done I’tikaaf before
Third Priority: those who live within the local area (1/4 mile radius) but are not regulars of the Masjid
Fourth Priority: those who live outside the local area and are not regulars of the Masjid
All brothers wishing to participate in I’tikaaf at Al-Hijrah must provide accurate details on the form to the best of their ability
Anyone who wishes to apply after the I’tikaaf stay has started is subject to the same rules and guidance as those on the program already and subject to availability of places
There is no parking available for people in I’tikaaf – please arrange for someone to drop you off at the site. During Ramadhan the car park is extremely busy so we cannot allow cars to stand in the car park for long periods while brothers perform I’tikaaf
Brothers sitting Sunnah I’tikaaf MUST be in the Masjid BEFORE ASR time on the 20th of Ramadhan and will end on the night of Eid-al-Fitr;
Brothers sitting Nafl I’tikaaf MUST be in the mosque BEFORE ASR time on the date requested and will end AFTER MAGHRIB on the end date requested
The seclusion area is a designated room adjacent to Hall 1
During the I’tikaaf, the spiritual ethos should be strictly observed: Tilawah, Nafl prayers, Du’as and general intake of Islamic knowledge and individual reflections. In general, avoidance of any unnecessary and worldly conversations
During any collective part of the programme in the form of reading, talks or reminders, all participants are expected to join and not to do their own individual activities in those times
Brothers sitting Sunnah I’tikaaf MUST NOT leave the mosque grounds at any time during the stay, except for emergencies
If any brother sitting Sunnah I’tikaaf leaves the mosque grounds at any time, unless for an emergency, his Sunnah I’tikaaf will become invalid
Please avoid bringing excessive amounts of food, drink or other items, especially those that may cause hygiene issues
Come prepared – ensure to bring all necessary items that you will need for your full stay such as sleeping arrangements, toiletries, medication, sleeping bag, spare clothes etc
All participants MUST stay in a good state of cleanliness during their stay and be considerate of others
Brothers MUST REFRAIN from talking about worldly things or engage in argumentation – observe silence as much as possible
During your stay you may be asked to help or be assigned a duty – this could include helping during the setup and tidying of Suhoor and Iftar meals – this is also Ibadah
Brothers MUST NOT smoke on any part of the masjid premises which includes the car parks
Avoid bringing unnecessary electronic devices except a phone for essential emergency communications
Al-Hijrah is NOT responsible for any theft, vandalism, lost property or damage to personal goods during your stay
We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the I’tikaaf and the masjid premises if any of these rules are not adhered and respected; or for any other reason not listed. This is a serious matter and likely to be extremely rare
If you are asked by the management or authorised person to leave I’tikaaf, you agree to do so without argumentation and in a dignified and Islamic manner
